The Dark Island
(Iain MacLachlan)

Although it has a 'traditional sound',
the melody was originally composed by Iain in 1958 as a pipe lament for a local doctor under the title 'Dr Mackay's Farewell to Creagorry' - the town on Benbecula, Scotland, where Iain and his family lived.

It was subsequently used for a BBC Thriller called The Dark Island in 1963, which was filmed on South Uist.

The wave file (1.5Mb) was recorded using the Hohner Musette IV pictured below
(Sorry about the quality, but file size was a problem! Even in MP3!)

DARK ISLAND - audio (1.5Mb) Dark Island - learned from the playing of Pete Shutler of the Yetties - this appears on my CD 'Revived? Forty-Five!
